all the warm while
i'm not about
to raise any
wild claims of being
riled in the darkness
by a dream
that would set me
apart from the many
whose heart
your gaze must've turned-
i'm just concerned
over whether you
notice
there's no other me
after some other flavor
no other me who
dream the ripe hour
lying close
alongside you
eye upon eye,
keeping all the warm
while inside you...

virginity redux
well, in further thought of one of my previous posts (lust for virginity) i have become somewhat cynical of the experiment in which ms. dylan is performing. nevertheless, i am still interested in why we as evangelicals (that's right, i have become content to label myself an evangelical) have almost come to idolize virginity. yes, the selling of virginity on e-bay is limited in its sociological results, but all of the other facts mentioned are still relevant.
stay pure...or something

why do we say these words?

someday we'll be complete like modern saints,
baptize our kids in gasoline
and hang our doubts up in cathedrals,
so that they turn to faith in the colored sunlight.
red rain, red rain we'll make as we're blacking out in the center lane
(we swerve) to the beat, (spill) all the ink,
(no revisions) do you hear the church bells ringing?
they... ring... for... you.
we woke up this morning to a sky with no air in it.
and all the streets are filled with a thousand burning crosses
and what we thought was the sunrise, just passing headlights
still the choir boys sing:
oh lord, can You save us? save us.
oh lord, sing hallelujah!
oh lord, can You save us? save us.
oh lord, sing hallelujah!

the lust for virginity
i am placing a link to a cnn article about a woman who is selling her virginity. before you judge her remember this has been going on for...um, let me see...all of civilization. so, 'judge not lest ye be judged' (matt. 7:1). But in all seriousness, I am curious what others think about this. The following will be some curious facts I found on virginity in the religious realms.
the kinsey institute makes the claim that many people say (i.e. my wife) losing one's virginity has different implications for men than women. while many women see the loss of their virginity as a symbolic giving of themselves, young men are desiring the abilitybrag about it. similarly, says kempner( from another institute on sex), women are taught to keep themselves "pure" and help men exercise control, while there's a "boys will be boys" attitude around men.
as i was reading a one of my father's medical journals, i discovered that a recent study in the journal pediatrics showed that religious teens who take virginity pledges are as likely to have sex before marriage as their religious peers, and less likely to use condoms or birth control when they become sexually active. Now I have heard this before from various places like the mayo clinic and it is in fact mentioned in the cnn article.

smart water and the academy

on January 19, 2009 a dream of mine was fulfilled. 'what dream?' you ask. the dream of staying in a community of social christians called the kingdom house. the community is found in kc, k and houses single males who recognize that it is through community that lives are changed. half of the occupancy are recovering drug addicts and the other half are guys who like to participate in good things. before, I was never allowed to join the group when i lived in kc, because I was married and desired to stay with my wife. i'm still married, however i am in kc for two weeks working on finishing my master's. it's a cool place, i wish there were more of them, maybe guymon will have one soon.
in other news, i forgot my water bottle when i drove away from the little big town of guymon, so i was forced to purchase a disposable bottle. for those who do not know, i have sworn off buying these abhorrent things, due to the overwhelming amount of pollution they cause. Sadly, my desire for water overwhelmed my conviction and i broke down and bought the best and cheapest disposable bottle, which happened to be smart water. after drinking the original water, i was amazed to discover that i was not yet smarter for drinking it. naturally, i assumed it took a while to kick in. i then proceeded to refill the bottle with my school's drinking fountain. upon drinking six rounds of the school's water in an hour, i discovered that not only did i have to go to the bathroom, but i also became smarter with my comments in class.
conclusion, it is the bottle that the water is packaged in, which makes the water smart. thus, i shall contact the producer of this plastic and order a suit, making me unstoppable. you will tremble in my intellectual presence. that is all

i'm back
it's the beginning of a new semester and I am in a class with the same professor who spawned the previous post.
life is crazy, but i'm glad. if life was mediocre, it would be boring.
if all i had to worry about was a broken down car and a dog that has not been fixed, i would hate it.
I do not always know why things happen or what the world will look like in the future.
i know that the ride embodies life.
i'm hungry.

the old testament and genitals
when i was a lad, my favorite verse in the old testament was Ezekiel 23:20. here it is, in case you forgot, "she lusted after their genitals – as large as those of donkeys, and their seminal emission was as strong as that of stallions." today, in my old testament theology class we spoke of sexes, which led to us using the word 'genital' many a time. as i researched the usage of genital in the old testament i discovered that it occurs quite often. and today, in class, we used genital profusely today. amazing, genitals and old testament theology go hand in hand, but not literally hand in hand, because that would be a sin against God and humanity.
